The Mount Currie Community Development Centre

Lifelong learning is essential to the growth and development of any individual and community in general. A person of any age or background has the ability to learn new skills and thought patterns. Learning can improve overall health, mental function, self-confidence, and even create new financial opportunities. We live in a dynamic, hyper-complex and interconnected world that requires us to learn how to quickly adapt to change, evolve, and grow. Lifelong learning is one of life's greatest gifts.

In the end you are ‘Certified’ by the community you serve and it is the experience and knowledge you learn along the way, not the paper credentials at the end of university program, a training course, conference, workshop or seminar that matters ~ Let your actions speak louder than a degree!

There are many people in possession of high degrees because they are good at going to school but are still quite incompetent at changing and improving the status quo for the weakest members in a society ~ including animals!

“We will ultimately not be judged by our technology, we won't be judged by our design, we won't be judged by our intellect and reason. Ultimately, you judge the character of a society, not by how they treat their rich and the powerful and the privileged, but by how they treat the poor, the condemned, the disabled. Because it's in that nexus that we actually begin to understand truly profound things about who we are” - Bryan Stevenson

You are here and that is what matters! We don’t believe that in the pursuit of knowledge, a degree or diploma is really the only thing that matters! If you learn a useful skill or trade, is proof by positive action not enough, or does the piece of paper need to be acquired? Too much emphasis is put on the degree and not enough on actual skills, talents and knowledge. We want to help you become a change agent to drive the human transformation and evolution to a new paradigm of peace collaboration, open-source and abundant living! The MCCDO Centre a catalyst to help this process of transcendence start locally!

The MCCDO Centre is located 5km outside of Kokstad along the R617 on Mountain View Farm and operates in partnership with EG Permaculture Co-op Ltd. The centre consist of 5 hubs which include ‘The Information and Inspiration Centre’, ‘The Lifestyle Lounge’, ‘The Agri-Pod’, ‘The House of Higher Consciousness’ and the envisioned ‘Community Factory’. Together these hubs enable MCCDO to facilitate and administer various community development initiatives and projects in the region.

The Information and Inspiration Centre.

'Isangqa Senkcukacha Nempefumlelwano' ~ Is a large training and entertainment venue. It is structured like a cinema-auditorium with the intention to promote a paradigm shift in community development and wellbeing with fresh, diverse and innovative ideas from around the world. Thought provoking videos are regularly screened and workshops arranged to make local communities aware of global challenges and empowered with proactive local solutions. Recreational activities are also organized for fun and the venue can be hired for private functions.

The Lifestyle Lounge.

It is where we intend create an open University access portal and facilitate video journalism.

The Agri-Pod

'Isisele Sezolimo' ~ houses’ our private bio-diversity heirloom seed bank, a sustainable agriculture resource library as well as functions as a meeting, planning and training room for the farming operations of EG Permaculture Co-operative.

The House of Higher Consciousness

Is the home for volunteers and internship trainees. It is surrounded by a Permaculture garden for foraging and also hosts the administrative offices of both The MCCDO and EG Permaculture Co-op Ltd. Healing and personal development retreats also happen in this wholesome space.

The Community Factory

Currently envisioned, The Community Factory (CF) will pioneer Open Community Manufacturing (OCM) concepts that facilitate and support sustainable technology transfer systems  to help communities innovate, pool resources, access equipment (‘ToolShare’), share open-source DIY processes, search for Biomimicry inspiration and connect globally with the ‘MakerSpace’ movement to solve local challenges.  Learn more here
